Abortion

Approximately 140,000 legal abortions are performed in the UK every year.

Some people think that a baby only becomes a human being when it is born. Some people think that it becomes a human being on the 25th day when the heart starts beating. Other people think that the arms and legs have to form for it to be a human being. I think that a human is formed as soon as conception takes place.

I think that God is the only one who has the right to decide on abortion. God chooses when to bring life, so he should choose when to take it.

If a woman gets pregnant and she decides to have an abortion then she is allowed one if:

• the foetus is younger than 24 weeks
• two doctors agree to it
• the mother is at risk of physical or mental health problems.

Gods word contains many verses that can be applied to the issue of abortion:

• Genesis 1:27 – “God created human beings in his own image.”
• Isaiah 49:15-16 – “Even if a mother should forget you. I have written your name on the palms of my hands.”
• Luke 12:6 – “Even the hairs on your head have all been counted.”
