Adverbs

An adverb gives more information about another word, usually a verb, sometimes an adjective or another adverb, but never a noun or pronoun.

Adverbs can tell us HOW, WHERE, WHEN or WHY the verb was done:

The boy (noun) ran (verb) quickly (manner - how he ran) across the road (place - where he ran) just after lunch (time - when he ran) to fetch his football (purpose - why he ran).
