GCSE Drama Curriculum
The curriculum is split into 2 parts, 60% coursework and 40% written exam
60% Coursework
Students will present 4 pieces of performance work throughout the 2 year course, 2 scripted pieces and 2 devised pieces. They can choose from the following options:
Scripted work

Devised thematic work - Creating a piece of drama from a theme or stimulus which entails portions of both scripted and unscripted work

Acting - Presenting a piece of scripted work in front of an audience.
Unscripted work

Devised thematic work - Creating a piece of drama from a theme or stimulus which entails portions of both scripted and unscripted work

Dance / Drama - A piece of work focussed mainly of physical theatre and dance devised from a set stimulus

Improvisation - A piece of polished improvisation from a set stimulus

Theatre in education - A piece around a particular theme aimed at a specific audience, e.g. Road Safety for year 5
40% Written Work
End of year 11 exam where students answer two questions of their choice. They can answer either two questions on two set texts or one question on a set text and one on a live production.
The exam is 2 hours long. The current set texts are:
The Crucible - Arthur Miller
Billy Liar - Waterhouse and Hall
The scripted coursework is based around of these two set texts.
