22nd November 2004
Dear Parents and Supporters
School Open Day
This week is our Open Day on Thursday 25th November between 9.30 and 2pm, where visitors and prospective parents are welcomed into the school. In the evening we hold a presentation introducing parents to the school and a Christian perspective on education. (7.30 - 9.00pm). This event has been advertised in local churches, but please consider your personal contacts and invite them along to the Open Day, the evening presentation or both!
Christmas Programme
Christmas is fast approaching, our Christmas Production this year is entitled "The Three Trees". There will be an afternoon performance at 1.45pm on Monday 13th December and an evening performance at 7.00pm on Tuesday 14th December. Tickets will be given to each family in primary and you are asked to return unwanted tickets to the school office. Please only bring people you have tickets for, as once again space will be very limited. Tickets will be issued towards the beginning of December. Parents are also asked to help with providing costumes, your child's teacher will let you know what your child requires very shortly.
Mr Richardson and Mrs Hewer are working with a small group of willing students, who have come together to form a choir. They will be performing at the Inland Revenue staff Christmas concert on Wednesday 8th December at 12:30pm.
School Council
This week sees the first meeting of a new group within school. The School Council will give two representatives from each class from Year 5 upwards the opportunity to meet with myself as Headteacher and represent the views of the student body to the leadership of the school. I will also use this group to canvas the ideas and views of the student body towards delivering the school's aims and the many issues that come up in the life of a school. The School Council will give students opportunities to take part in a group with an elected chairperson/secretary etc. and give them the opportunities to experience contributing to a group serving a wider community.
The minutes of the School Council will be available on the website as well as providing a brief feedback to parents in the newsletter. The School Council will meet me every half term, serve for an academic year and hopefully improve the relationship between the school body and staff, and improve the running of the school in general.

Autumn 2004 Fund-raising
As you will know, the school's fund-raising for its involvement in Project Romania. Monies raised support the Amadeus Foundation and its work with families of new born babies in Mangalia, a seaside resort on the shores of the black sea. This term the emphasis of the fund-raising will be slightly different in that it will support David, the eighteen month old son of Marius and Owana Koritar. Rachel J (Year Eleven) whose family is involved in supporting David's operation for hydrocephalus here explains the families need.
David Koritar lives in Mangalia in Romania with his dad, Marius, his mum Owana and his sister Powla. He needs to have an operation to remove water from his brain. He is unable to move his head, as it is so large. My Family, my church and I have been involved in trying to get him help.
This week Marius and Owana have brought David to the UK and taken him to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool for David to have the operation. On Monday he is having two shunts put into his head to drain the water and next week he's having another operation to piece his skin back together.
David and his family need financial and prayer support while they are in the UK as they could be here for up to 3 weeks or more. Also the doctor and anaesthetist are not charging but the family need to raise some money to pay for the equipment used, for living expenses whilst they're here and for their flight back home.
I feel a lot for Marius and Owana, as they are very worried about the operations and about their daughter Powla who is still in Romania with her grandparents; as this is the first time they've really been apart. I also feel sorry for David, as he is unable to move and do things he should be able to do. So I ask you if you could support both David and his family in whatever way possible.' --Rachel J
The PTA are arranging a Bun Sale 6 - 10th December and the end of term Non - Uniform Day will raise money to support David's visit to England and the costs involved.
A reminder to parents with children in the primary department that it is "Parents Consultation Evening" on Monday 29th November. If you have not signed up yet please see your child's teacher to arrange a time.
Monday 29th, will also be the consultation evening for parents of Year Ten students from 7:30pm - 9pm.
Yours sincerely
