5th January 2005

Dear Parents

Welcome back to all students and families in this new year.

Mrs Plant

We extend a special welcome to Mrs Jane Plant, our Class 2 teacher who returns to work after an absence of the last two terms when she has been through a period of treatment for cancer. Mrs Plant is looking forward to her return and resuming her contribution to the life of Class 2. We pray that her health continues to improve into the new year.

Thanks for Baby David

Thank you for all who supported the fund raising for Baby David, the little Romanian boy who came to England for medical treatment. We raised £130, half of which will be donated to David and his family, the other half will be donated to the Amadeus Foundation, the Christian health foundation we work with in Romania.

David and his family will return to England for further treatment in the Spring.

Tsunami Disaster

We were all dismayed to learn of the plight of people affected by the earthquake and tsunamis in the Indonesia region over the Christmas break. In school we have been aware that children have wished to talk about the situation and to ask questions. We have made time and space for this to happen. Also on Wednesday of this week, we paired Primary and Secondary classes together and gave them the opportunity to talk and pray together.

Further, though we usually only fund raise for our Romania Project, on this occasion we felt it appropriate to allow a voluntary collection of money on Wednesday / Thursday an Friday of this week. We have stressed that this is a voluntary collection and that children are not under pressure to give money. We are aware that many families will already have given either on their own or as part of a church fellowship.

Discipleship Programme

We are renewing a discipleship initiative we have previously pursued in the school at the start of this new term. Starting Wednesday 12th January we are starting a two hour after school programme. The programme is open to students in Y9/10 and 11. The aim of the programme is to help students deepen and develop in their discipleship relationship with Jesus. The programme consists of teaching but also developing practical skills and abilities to use in service and outreach initiatives.

After half term we intend to put on a trial after school club for younger students in the school to practice our skills. We are hoping possibly to run an after school club in Bolton Woods.

We will provide more information on this initiative on the Discipleship Programme page for those interested in finding out more.

GCSE Consultation Evening

In addition to the covering letter sent out to parents of students in Year 11 (and those Year 10 where students are taking a GCSE a year earlier) we are reminding parents that there is an important consultation meeting on Monday 10th January 7:30pm – 9:30pm. The focus of this evening is to give feedback on student's performances in their recent mocks and to agree important targets between now and the final exams starting in May.

Yours sincerely

P J Moon
