Dear Parents

Numbers on the role are 63 for Primary and 103 for Secondary. God was faithful in sending 15 new students to the school in the Summer Term. I am believing for another 10 students between now and Easter.

P J Moon Head Teacher

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all the students achieving GCSE passes this summer. Our percentage for students achieving 5 or more A to C passes this year is 69%; of the 8 students not quite gaining 5 A-C passes, 6 of them gained 4 A-C passes. We are pleased to have added value to the majority of students across our ability range.

Please pray for those students as they move on to sixth form, college or employment.

Welcome to new staff

We welcome Mrs Katherine Clements to our staff. Mrs Clements will teach French to Years 7,8 and 9. Mrs Marsden is planning her retirement from teaching in order to work as a translator with her sister concerning business and commerce between Britain and Germany. Mrs Marsden will continue to teach Y10 and 11 this year as well as support Mrs Clements induction with the school.

Mr Heath will now work for the school for 4 days rather than 2. As well as Drama, he will teach RE and PSHE.

Mr Kershaw will take on Mr Richardson’s responsibilities to teach secondary ICT.

Mrs Chadwick will offer a second morning this year to introduce culinary skills to students in the secondary school.

The Primary team remains as they were last year.

Jonny Townend who left the school in 2004 will spend his gap year assisting us with PE and other aspects of the schools curriculum.

Change to the Governing Body

Mr Kevin McHugh, having served the school as chairperson for the past three years, is stepping down from the role of chair. Mr McHugh has served the school generously over the time that the school moved down to Bolton Woods. His skill, patience and wisdom have steered the school through some challenging times and we thank him for his many contributions.

Mr Paul Cribb will take the chair for an interim period of between 6 months and a year. Paul was a foundational governor before his break in service to pioneer missionary work in Paraguay with his family for a 2 year period.

Mr Paul Hubbard, another foundational governor, will also attend some Governors meetings in the capacity of an advisor. Paul’s travelling itinerary is much increased in recent years. Paul’s insights are much valued and appreciated by the Governing Body.

Annual Partnership Meeting

This years Annual Partnership Meeting will be on Friday 29th September 7.00 to 9.00pm. This is the one time in the year when we look forward to having all parents together. These evenings are vital for imparting vision and sharing the challenges and opportunities of the year ahead. Governors and Staff look forward to joining with you on this evening.

New Start time

As of Monday 11th September the start of the school day will come forward by 5 minutes. We shall begin the school day at 8.50am rather than 8.55. We trust that this does not prove inconvenient.

Plea for Parking Courtesy

May we remind secondary parents to drive along Walter Street, park on the apron outside the garages on Allison Lane, and strictly follow the one way system? Primary parents please park on the hill above the school and walk your children to and from school.

Do not:

  • Park on the yellow lines in front of the school
  • Park outside peoples homes in Bolton Woods
  • Ignore our one way system

We value and appreciate the good will of our neighbours.

Please be courteous and careful drivers when visiting the school.

Milk Money

As you will be aware, children in Primary have a drink and a biscuit at morning break each day. The cost for the year is £20 per pupil and we would appreciate this in an envelope at the school office as soon as possible.

Swimming lessons

Children from class 2 will be going swimming at Shipley Pool on Friday afternoons at 2.30 – 3.00pm. Children will be transported to the pool by minibus and car and we ask that you collect your child at Shipley Pool at 3.15pm. Staff will be at the pool until 3.30pm. As we buy into this service there is a cost of £2.50 per lesson. Please note that we are charged by the session not per pupil so payment is required even if your child is absent.
