We were really pleased with the attendance and the way the evening progressed. 75% of families were represented, making it one of the most successful evenings we have hosted. So where do we go next?

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS CLARIFICATION BCS will break up for Christmas on Tuesday 19th December and return to School on Thursday 4th Jan A Word of Clarification about Fund RaisingI am writing to clarify the question of funding and donations to the school. We do accept gifts and donations for the school. We appreciate people giving financially to the school and indeed, we cannot exist without such gifts. We still have a sizeable debt from our refurbishment that stands at £180,000. This debt is covered by a number of private loans from supporters of the school. This figure has been reduced from £210,000 over the past three years. Falling numbers have compounded the financial situation that we are currently facing, nevertheless our faith is in God who “can do exceedingly, abundantly more than we ask or think”. When we first set out as a school we had a much bigger financial need than we could ever meet from the fees of the few families we started out with. We decided not to put lots of energy into fundraising rather to simply state our needs, ask people to pray and then see what came in. This worked! We had a £50,000 bill to pay at the end of the first term for the portacabins that we began the school in. It also meant that our testimony would be that God provides and that no individual or group could say that they were the fund raisers of the school. We have stuck to this principle for the past 12 years. We have numerous requests to fund raise for people. We have resisted this because of the distraction it inevitably causes. We have raised money for the Amadeus Foundation, in Mangalia, Romania, which we have strong links with. We have been able to bless the development of this mission considerably over the last five or six years. We also make donations to the ministries of visiting speakers in assemblies on a regular basis. We also sponsor 3 children through a Christian charity working in developing countries. We have also been sponsoring indigenous missionaries in India. We still feel that we should keep to this general principle, but we are prepared to let the PTA take on specific projects for fund raising. At the start of the year the PTA fund paid for two replacement cookers in the kitchen. We are happy to let the PTA work towards fundraising a new minibus for the school. To this end some of the funds raised through activities will go to this project. More details will follow. Some pupils are studying a double award Applied Science course which is founded in practical application and involves practical and project work and one final exam in Year 11. The course is organised around the theme of creation, provision, the effects of the fall and stewardship. Other pupils will also do two Science GCSEs but will take one at the end of Year 10 and a second at the end of Year 11. The Year 10 GCSE is organised around the following headings: Origin, design, Consequence of the fall, Stewardship and God’s provision. It covers all three sciences and involves practical assessment at school. In Year 11 subjects studied at Year 10 are studied to a deeper level. If you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact Dr Viccary. Football Report – BCS v Shaw HouseBCS put last week’s defeat to the back of their minds as they came out on to the pitch raring to go against Shaw House. An early injury to Ben W (who has suffered ligament damage) saw Tom H make his first appearance for the BCS team. From then the goals seemed to just keep coming, the pick of which was a late strike from Louis F who latched on to a long ball from James G to lob the ball over the keeper and get his well deserved hat-trick. The match ended with a comfortable 6-0 win!
BCS v Sunbridge RoadBCS were eager to get a result after losing in the same fixture 2 weeks ago. The match started out well when an early free kick from Josh T was rifled in from 35 yards to give BCS an early lead. Sunbridge then grabbed 2 goals it was an exciting first half. The second half saw a positive start from BCS earning an early penalty which was dragged wide by Louis F. But the home side put the penalty miss behind them and sought to grab the equaliser. Then halfway through the second half a great run, when from an average cross Jake FJ powered in a great header which left the goal keeper standing. But 5 minutes from the end, Luke Dale hit a shot that bounced out of Josh W’s hands and saw Sunbridge Road grab what proved to be the winning goal.
